Mikala's Game

My sister, Mikala, who plays for Dixie had a game in Phoenix so we headed over to see her play. We left Sat. morning and got there in time to hang out with Mikala at her hotel and go out to lunch with the team. Lydia kept calling her Shakayla the whole time.

The kids got soaking wet dipping their feet in the pool and had fun riding the elevator. Martha Ann fell off a deck chair and hit her head on the rock floor. Luckily she has a very hard head and these falls, which happen almost daily, don't seem to hurt her too much.

I was glad I had brought a lot of snacks because they kept the kids occupied for quite a while. I realized that my kids know pretty much nothing about any type of sports. I spent a large part of the game trying to explain to Maren what was going on. The girls were actually pretty good though.

We were glad some cloud cover moved in and there was a nice breeze because it was hot, even for us El Pasoans.

The game was a lot of fun. I had forgotten how much I like soccer. I might have to break down and let my kids play sports.

Mikala scored off a penalty kick and I thought she looked really good. I am always amazed at her ball control. They won 4-3 in overtime. We were glad they scored quickly in the overtime because our kids were ready to go.

We said a quick goodbye to Mikala, who was leaving right after to drive back to St. George. We headed back to the hotel and had a quick swim and went to bed. We had a suite with two bedrooms which makes the trip so much pleasanter. Scott can watch TV and I can still get the girls to bed.

We only had two hysterical screaming fits in the night, Martha Ann and Lydia. We count that as a success. Everyone slept in the next morning and we got up and headed for home.

We had a quick stop in Deming because we wanted to check out our old house. We were a little disappointed to see how awful it looked. I don't think the new owners have done one bit of yard work. Everything was dead and overgrown. It was a little sad after all our (mainly Scott's) hard work, but at least it sold.

So glad you were able to see your sister play! I am missing my baby sister, who is a Senior this year. She is an awesome V-Ball player, but I guess I will just have to watch the "home video's".
