Adventures in Savannah

Last Wednesday my mom and sister, Brendy, flew in to spend a couple days with us. We drove down Wednesday afternoon and picked them up from the Jacksonville, FL airport. Apparently it is a lot cheaper to fly into Jacksonville than Savannah. They got both their tickets for less then it would have cost to get one ticket to Savannah.

Maren and Lydia were so excited for them to come. Maren woke up that morning and walked out of her bedroom and said, "Today's the big day, isn't it?" Scott and I were really excited because Maren and Lydia slept with Grandma all week and didn't come in our room once. Of course Martha Ann was teething and slept horrible so she ended up in bed with us most nights.

On Thursday we headed out to Tybee Island. First we went to the lighthouse again. I took one picture and then my camera died. I don't know what was wrong with it. Everyone kept asking if the battery was just dead, but I was sure it wasn't that because it never died like that with just a dead battery. Of course two days later I finally changed the batteries just to see and then it worked. Oh well.

The girls did great again climbing to the top. It was gorgeous up top even though it was extremely windy. Poor Lydia didn't last long before just wanting to go back down.

After looking through the museum with Lydia crying the whole time that she didn't want to be at this "pirate zoomeum," we headed to our next adventure, a boat ride to look for dolphins.

I was a little worried about how the girls would do because it was pretty cold and windy. Right before the boat ride Brendy and I started to get a little worried we would get motion sickness because the water was so choppy. We all ended up fine even though Brendy said she did start to feel sick at one point. Maren loved it. I was surprised at how brave she was because the boat was really rocking back and forth and we got splashed a lot. Poor Lydia was scared and just hunkered down and held on to my leg and eventually fell asleep. Martha Ann was so funny to watch. She just kept licking her lips with a funny expression on her face because of the salt from the water. I wish I would have had my camera, but it would probably have gotten soaked.

It was fun to watch the dolphins. They weren't really jumping out of the water or anything, but you could see quite a few. It really is fun to see things in real life even if you don't get as good as view as you do on TV.

Despite the rain and cold and wind I think it was one of the funner things I've done here.

The next day, Halloween, we went downtown and took a carriage ride through the old part of Savannah. Savannah really is beautiful with all the trees, cool old buildings, and city squares. It was fun to hear a little of the history behind some of the buildings and things.

My mom had taught Lydia to say Happy Halloween to all the people as we walked down the street to the carriage ride. Lydia continued to yell it to all the people we walked by, including the cars.
