Museum of American History

On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day we went to the Museum of American History. When we got there a group was singing gospel music. I thought it was fun, but the girls did not like how loud it was. Lydia kept her hands over her ears and wanted to leave, so we headed downstairs to the kids discovery area. It wasn't very busy, so the girls had a lot of fun.

Martha and Lydia loved this canoe from the kevlar display. I didn't realize kevlar, the stuff used to make body armor/bullet proof vests, was used in so many things. Also it was a women who invented kevlar which I hadn't known. I guess I am learning something from all these museums.

Lydia "helping" a little girl. Lydia just loves babies right now. We had Phil, Scott's cousin, and his wife and 5 month old over for dinner on Friday and Lydia was enthralled by the baby.

There really was a lot of fun activities to do. The girls played happily for quite awhile.

Maren was good to let this random girl help with her design.

They had a display that let you see what it would feel like to windsurf. One of the employees was standing behind me mumbling to himself about this being so unsafe. I would think you'd have someone a little more kid friendly working in the kid area. At least he didn't make them get off and I don't see how it was unsafe

Martha Ann preferred to eat the display rather than play with it. I'm sure that had no germs whatsoever on it.

After trying to look at some adult exhibits for about five minutes we gave up and left. Scott could tell I was a little frazzled so he told me to go and get a sandwich at Potbelly's and he would tend the kids. I don't usually take him up on these offers, but this time I did. I went in had a sandwich and chocolate malt in peace.
Scott walked the girls down to the White House and let them run around a few minutes.

Then on the way back he bought me some flowers from a street vendor. I thought they were pretty good for $6.00 flowers. I really do have a great husband.

I hope you get a chance to go back sometime. I loved the art and other artifacts upstairs. (Didn't know about the kids area.) You will have to see the swordfish, and a cabinet with so many cubbies. :)
Thanks for having Phil, Amy and Libby over too! I heard they had fun and liked how excited your kids were with Libby.
